Ischemic Priapism Induced by Papaverine Sulfate : A Case Report

The recent introduction of intracavernosal injection of papaverine sulfate for the diagnosis and treatment of impotence has resulted in an increased incidence of iatrogenic priapism. Although ischemic priapism is regarded as a medical emergency,
its
treatment remains controversial.
Recently, we treated a case of ischemic priapism of 30 hours' duration induced by papaverine. With the aid of measurements of intracavernosal blood and successive intracavernous injections of ephedrine sulfate. The patient obtained complete
detumescence
and reported recover of potency at three months follow-up.
